On the 14th July, our school was transformed into a vibrant tapestry of global cultures as we celebrated International Day across both the primary and secondary phases. This annual event is a proud tradition at our school, where we honour the many cultures represented in our community and explore the wider world beyond our own borders.
This year, our focus was on discovering countries that were unfamiliar to us, encouraging pupils to broaden their horizons and deepen their understanding of global diversity. Each phase was allocated a continent, and pupils enthusiastically researched countries within that region, engaging in creative and educational activities inspired by their findings.
- In secondary, pupils took to the kitchen to learn how to cook traditional dishes from their chosen countries, blending culinary skills with cultural appreciation.
- In primary, the day was packed with exciting activities including fashion shows, African drumming, language learning, and jewellery making—each one offering a hands-on experience of different cultures.
- A highlight of the day was the International Parade, where primary pupils proudly waved flags representing their heritage or the countries they had studied.
Staff and pupils alike embraced the spirit of the day by dressing in traditional clothing or wearing colours that symbolised a country of their choice, creating a joyful and inclusive atmosphere throughout the school.
The celebration culminated in a whole-school assembly, where we came together to honour every culture represented in our community. The assembly was filled with music, flag waving, and shared pride, as we celebrated the richness of our diversity and the unity it brings.
International Day was a powerful reminder of our school’s values and ethos to support pupils to be Independent, Confident, and Motivated—and of the importance of learning from one another to build a more connected and compassionate world.
