Our School

Ofsted February 2024

Pupils said that they love coming to school. This is because staff are kind and take care of their needs. Pupils behave extremely well. Those that find meeting the school’s behaviour expectations challenging receive targeted and effective support. Pupils enjoy making new friends and look out for each other. There is a very happy and purposeful ambience that permeates across the school.

John Chilton School is a mixed Community Special School funded by Ealing Local Authority for pupils aged 4-19 years who may have moderate to severe learning difficulties as a primary need or as a dual diagnosis to their medical or physical needs.

Our secondary department is uniquely located within the all-age Alec Reed Academy (ARA) building. This provides opportunities for inclusion and integration where appropriate for individuals. Pupils from both schools can share opportunities and advantages. Pupils from the Academy may attend lessons in JCS and if a JCS pupil is able to manage in a mainstream classroom with no learning support, they may have the chance to attend some sessions at ARA. There are no barriers between the schools and pupils have many opportunities to interact socially.

Our primary department is co-located at Wood End Primary School (WEP) in Greenford. As JCS expands the WEP site is being redeveloped for our pupils, with a view to total occupancy in 2024. JCS and WEP look for opportunities for social inclusion through events and curriculum integration opportunities are possible.

The school building is fully accessible for pupils with disabilities. Facilities include a hydrotherapy pool, therapy suite, food technology rooms, sensory room and a medical room. There are dedicated playgrounds for pupils with a variety of outdoor toys and zones; a large part of these playgrounds has a safety surface. The school also has a large outdoor area of classroom and allotments used to promote life skills, gardening and horticulture.
