John Chilton School is a mixed Community Special School funded by Ealing Local Authority for pupils aged 4-19 years who may have moderate to severe learning difficulties as a primary need or as a dual diagnosis to their medical or physical needs.
Our Post-14 department is uniquely located within the all-age Alec Reed Academy (ARA) building. This provides opportunities for inclusion and integration where appropriate for individuals. Pupils from both schools can share opportunities and advantages. Pupils from the Academy may attend lessons in JCS and if a JCS pupil is able to manage in a mainstream classroom with no learning support, they may have the chance to attend some sessions at ARA. There are no barriers between the schools and pupils have many opportunities to interact socially.
Our Reception – Year 8 department is located at the Orchard Site in Greenford, very near Wood End Primary School (WEP). JCS and WEP look for opportunities for social inclusion through events and curriculum integration.
The school buildings are fully accessible for pupils with disabilities. Facilities include a hydrotherapy pool, therapy suites, food technology rooms, sensory rooms, nurture rooms and a medical rooms. There are dedicated playgrounds and leisure areas for pupils with a variety of outdoor toys and zones; a large part of these playgrounds has a safety surface. The school also has a large outdoor area of classroom and allotments used to promote life skills, gardening and horticulture.
The Post-14 building also has a flat which is used to support the teaching and learning of daily life skills, and is a working café once a week.
